Influence of Additivation of Bio-Based Lubricants on Sprayability and Solubility for Cryogenic Minimum Quantity Lubrication

Abstract The development of innovative cooling lubrication strategies is significantly driven by the need to machine materials resistant high temperatures while taking into account both ecological and economic aspects. Cryogenic minimum quantity (CMQL) represents a compromise satisfying efficiency sustainability in manufacturing process. A minimal amount oil added cryogenic medium carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) ensure during tool engagement. In this context, vegetable oils, so-called triglycerides, can be used with respect concept. aim paper analyze various bio-based oils regard their solubility, spraying flow behavior investigate influence additives on performance. During tests, have shown no lubricating effects. Thus chemical properties base primarily solubility spray behavior. Finally, collected results were correlated machining tests showing only limited correlation aforementioned tests.
