Influence of magnetic shielding on electron dynamics characteristics of Penning ion source

The dynamic behaviors of electrons in a miniature Penning ion source model are analyzed by the particle cell/Monte Carlo collision simulation method combined with scalar magnetic potential finite-difference method. Mainly, influence shielding on trajectory and spatial distribution discharge process is taken into consideration. plasma impedance during excitation further discussed. calculated target current good agreement experimental value. results show that addition can reduce fluctuation electron density, increase uniformity distribution, double stabilization zone, which beneficial to stability source. However, cause decrease limits ionization degree. study helps understand dynamics characteristics provides reference for improving performance future.
