Influence of Sample Pretreatment on P Speciation in Sediments Evaluated with Sequential Fractionation and P K-edge XANES Spectroscopy

چکیده
Sequential phosphorus (P) fractionation procedures are one of the most widely used wet chemical methods for characterizing P pools in soils and sediments, but have also been criticized repeatedly their lack accuracy to measure chemically specified phosphate fractions. In recent investigation, sediments from two different sample locations with same pretreatments were analyzed sequential fractionation. To verify traditional assignments results, K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy was applied on especially residues after extraction steps. Results both indicated that influence pretreatment distribution much lower compared effects origins. Kettle hole dominated by moderately labile iron (Fe) aluminum (Al) associated species, whereas Bodden contained more stable calcium (Ca)–P species. Sample can be similar soil without causing fundamental changes speciation. The XANES confirmed assumptions

Temporal Changes in Cadmium Speciation in Brazilian Soils Evaluated Using Cd LIII-Edge XANES and Chemical Fractionation.
Chemical speciation of soil cadmium (Cd) dictates its mobility and potential toxicity in the environment. Our objective was to compare temporal changes in speciation of Cd(II) reacted with samples from six Brazilian soils having varying Cd(II) sorption capacities. Cadmium L-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analysis showed there were short-term changes in speciation after reacti...
متن کاملComplementary Phosphorus Speciation in Agricultural Soils by Sequential Fractionation, Solution P Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Phosphorus K-edge X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure Spectroscopy.
Ultisols in China need phosphorus (P) fertilization to sustain crop production but are prone to P loss in runoff. Balancing P inputs and loss requires detailed information about soil P forms because P speciation influences P cycling. Analytical methods vary in the information they provide on P speciation; thus, we used sequential fractionation (SF), solution P nuclear magnetic resonance (P-NMR)...
متن کاملApplication of XAFS in Tribology : P and S L-Edge XANES Spectroscopy of Antiwear Films
Antiwear additives are added to engine oils in the form of Zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDPs). They form an antiwear (bibochemical) film on the rubbing surfaces. High resolution P and S L-edge X-ray absorption near edge (XANES) spectroscopy has been used to characterize the chemical nature of the films formed under air and inert atmosphere. The total electron yield and fluorescence yield det...
متن کاملSample thickness and quantitative concentration measurements in Br K-edge XANES spectroscopy of organic materials.
While XANES spectroscopy is an established tool for quantitative information on chemical structure and speciation, elemental concentrations are generally quantified by other methods. The edge step in XANES spectra represents the absolute amount of the measured element in the sample, but matrix effects and sample thickness complicate the extraction of accurate concentrations from XANES measureme...
