Influence of Water Management Farming Practices on Soil Organic Carbon and Nutrients: A Case Study of Rice Farming in Kilombero Valley, Tanzania
نویسندگان
چکیده
Water scarcity and nutrient availability for rice farming have become great matters of concern in the contexts climate change land use globally. Both interact contribute to crop productivity at expense nutrients future water sustainability. The objective this study was understand on-farm potential response soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), phosphorous (TP) management practices within Kilombero Valley, Tanzania. Soil samples were collected from three villages area four depths: 0–20, 20–30, 30–40, 40–50 cm. Four regimes, namely: A = traditional flooding (rainfed) without intensification farming; B involving a system (SRI); C alternative wetting drying (AWD) SRI one cropping season; D abandoned fields (fallow); E AWD two seasons, investigated as regards their impact on SOC, TN, TP. There significant (p < 0.05) effects regimes season indicated positive effect SOC TN across all depths compared other practices. We conclude that practice involves with is plausible approach maintaining high increasing production while minimizing consumption.

Carbon sequestration in agricultural soils has the capacity to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to improve soil biological, physical, and chemical properties. The review of literature pertaining to soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics within Australian grain farming systems does not enable us to conclude on the best farming practices to increase or maintain SOC for a specific combina...
