چکیده

Natural gas hydrates (NGH) are potential energy resource and distributed in unconsolidated marine sediments. CH4–CO2 swapping combined with depressurization is a promising method for simultaneously enhancing CH4 recovery CO2 storage NGH. This was previously studied on CH4/CO2 mixed consolidated sediments but no such studies available In this study, we investigated dissociation characteristics of using slow multistep depressurization. were formed sandpack. Borehole Geophysical Logging in Unconsolidated Sediments

Over the last two decades, several advances have been made in the development and application of slim-hole geophysical sondes for use in groundwater, engineering, and environmental applications. This equipment is commonly used to provide qualitative (but detailed) estimates of grain size, sediment type, porosity, density, pore-water salinity, as well as bulk and shear moduli, to supplement geol...

Microbial nitrogen transformations in unconsolidated coral reef sediments

Major nitrogen (N) pools and bacterial transformations of N were examined in carbonate sediments of 3 reefs in the central area of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Depth distributions of nitrate (NO3-) and ammonium (NH,+) and rates of NH4+ production, N2 fixation (nitrogenase activity by CzHz reduction) and denitrification were measured in muddy sediments of an inshore reef and in fine-. medi...

Spectral Induced Polarization Measurements on Unsaturated, Unconsolidated Sediments

Understanding the Spectral Induced Polarization (SIP) response to saturation is required to improve application of this geophysical technique in the vadose zone. SIP measurements (0.11000 Hz) were conducted on three unconsolidated sediments during evaporative drying. Sample grain size distribution was determined from laser particle size diffraction measurements. The dependence of the real and i...

Bacterial dominance in subseafloor sediments characterized by methane hydrates.

The degradation of organic carbon in subseafloor sediments on continental margins contributes to the largest reservoir of methane on Earth. Sediments in the Andaman Sea are composed of ~ 1% marine-derived organic carbon and biogenic methane is present. Our objective was to determine microbial abundance and diversity in sediments that transition the gas hydrate occurrence zone (GHOZ) in the Anda...
