Internet Addiction and Depressıve Symptoms in Secondary School Students

Objective: The problems with internet usage is a significant problem regardless of social status and in almost all age groups. Internet addiction adolescents considered to be the most important risk This study was conducted determine correlation depressive symptoms among secondary school students. Method: research at two public schools Istanbul during 2015-2016 academic year. Ethics committee approval permission obtained from Directorate National Education Institutions. 1312 students completely filled measuring instruments. instruments consisted personal information form, Dependency Scale (IDS) Children's Depression Inventory (CDI). Results: average students’ 12,44±1,20. 50.2% sample were women. 53.8% spent 1-2 hours per day internet. Mean IDS point 38,942±12,90 mean CDI 12,52±7,13. According cutpoint; 80,9% normal users, 18,4% them high-risk users 0,6% dependents. cutpoint, 16.8% had symptoms. A statistically moderate found between scores (r=,414; p<0,01).
