Intrinsic functional clustering of ventral premotor F5 in the macaque brain

چکیده
Neurophysiological and anatomical data suggest the existence of several functionally distinct regions in lower arcuate sulcus adjacent postarcuate convexity macaque monkey. Ventral premotor F5c lies on consists a dorsal hand-related ventral mouth-related field. The posterior bank contains two additional F5 subfields at different anterior-posterior levels, F5a F5p. Anterior to F5a, area 44 has been described as dysgranular zone occupying deepest part fundus inferior arcuate. Finally, GrFO occupies most rostral portion extends ventrally onto frontal operculum. Recently, data-driven exploratory approaches using resting-state fMRI have suggested promising non-invasive method for examining functional organization primate brain. Here, we examined what extent partitioning schemes derived from clustering analysis correspond with proposed sulcus, by invasive architectonical, connectional investigations. Using hierarchical analysis, could retrieve clusters corresponding portions convexity, F5p antero-posterior locations arcuate, fundus, well anterior fundus. Additionally, each these displayed whole-brain connectivity, line previous tracer seed-based connectivity investigations F5/44 subdivisions. Overall, our suggests that can fine-grained level cortical resembles detailed parcellation

Functional properties of grasping-related neurons in the ventral premotor area F5 of the macaque monkey.
We investigated the motor and visual properties of F5 grasping neurons, using a controlled paradigm that allows the study of the neuronal discharge during both observation and grasping of many different three-dimensional objects with and without visual guidance. All neurons displayed a preference for grasping of an object or a set of objects. The same preference was maintained when grasping was...
متن کاملDecoding the activity of grasping neurons recorded from the ventral premotor area F5 of the macaque monkey.
Many neurons in the monkey ventral premotor area F5 discharge selectively when the monkey grasps an object with a specific grip. Of these, the motor neurons are active only during grasping execution, whereas the visuomotor neurons also respond to object presentation. Here we assessed whether the activity of 90 task-related F5 neurons recorded from two macaque monkeys during the performance of a...
متن کاملAnatomo-functional organization of the ventral primary motor and premotor cortex in the macaque monkey.
The ventral agranular frontal cortex of the macaque monkey is formed by a mosaic of anatomically distinct areas. Although each area has been explored by several neurophysiological studies, most of them focused on small sectors of single areas, thus leaving to be clarified which is the general anatomo-functional organization of this wide region. To fill this gap, we studied the ventral convexity...
متن کاملNeurons Controlling Voluntary Vocalization in the Macaque Ventral Premotor Cortex
The voluntary control of phonation is a crucial achievement in the evolution of speech. In humans, ventral premotor cortex (PMv) and Broca's area are known to be involved in voluntary phonation. In contrast, no neurophysiological data are available about the role of the oro-facial sector of nonhuman primates PMv in this function. In order to address this issue, we recorded PMv neurons from two ...
