Complete Projective Connections
The first examples of complete projective connections are uncovered: normal projective connections on surfaces whose geodesics are all closed and embedded are complete, as are normal projective connections induced from complete affine connections with slowly decaying positive Ricci curvature. Moreover, I explain the relationship between projective and affine connections.
متن کاملCompactness Theorems for Invariant Connections
The Palais-Smale Condition C holds for the Yang-Mills functional on principal bundles over compact manifolds of dimension ≤ 3. This was established by S. Sedlacek [17] and C. Taubes [18] Proposition 4.5 using the compactness theorem of K. Uhlenbeck [20]; see also [23]. It is well known that Condition C fails for Yang-Mills over compact manifolds of dimension ≥ 4. The example of SO(3)-invariant ...
متن کاملInvariant Prolongation of Overdetermined PDEs in Projective, Conformal and Grassmannian Geometry
This is the second in a series of papers on natural modification of the normal tractor connection in a parabolic geometry, which naturally prolongs an underlying overdetermined system of invariant differential equations. We give a short review of the general procedure developed in [5] and then compute the prolongation covariant derivatives for a number of interesting examples in projective, con...
متن کاملConformal and projective symmetries in Newtonian cosmology
Definitions of non-relativistic conformal transformations are considered both in the Newton-Cartan and in the Kaluza-Klein-type Eisenhart/Bargmann geometrical frameworks. The symmetry groups that come into play are exemplified by the cosmological, and also the Newton-Hooke solutions of Newton’s gravitational field equations. It is shown, in particular, that the maximal symmetry group of the sta...
