Inverted optical bistability and optical limiting in coherently driven exciton–polaritons

Exciton–polaritons in optical cavities exhibit strong nonlinearities predominantly because of the third-order Kerr-like interactions mediated by excitonic component. Under quasi-resonant excitation, depending on energy incident laser, it results limiting or bistable behavior. The latter phenomenon is manifested hysteresis loop observed input–output power characteristics, when a cavity quasi-resonantly driven laser field. direction typically counterclockwise increasing and subsequently decreasing power. In this work, we demonstrate bistability with an inverted direction. It exfoliated CdTe-based semiconductor microcavity frequency pumping tuned slightly below lower polariton mode. This unusual behavior caused interplay suppression coupling redshift mode We show that under these conditions, can be used as limiter. All experimental observations, shape behavior, are fully supported theoretical model.
