Investigating Metals and Metalloids in Soil at Micrometric Scale Using µ-XRF Spectroscopy—A Case Study

چکیده
Micrometric 2D mapping of distinct elements was performed in soil grain-size fractions a sample using the micro-X-ray Fluorescence (µ-XRF) technique. The collected vicinity São Domingos, an old mine massive sulphide minerals located Portuguese Iberian Pyrite Belt. As expected, elemental high-grade concentrations metals and metalloids dependence existent natural geochemical anomaly were detected. Clustering k-means statistical analysis developed considering Red–Green–Blue (RGB) pixel proportions produced micrometric image maps, allowing for identification spatial distributions at 2D. results evidence how composition varies significantly scale per class, chemical present irregular direct mineral distributions. Due to this fact, is more differentiated coarser classes, whereas griding-milled fraction does not always represent average all partial fractions. Despite complexity analysis, achieved suitability µ-XRF characterize natural, heterogeneous, granular soils samples scale, being very promising investigation technique high resolution.

متن کاملCriticality of metals and metalloids.
Imbalances between metal supply and demand, real or anticipated, have inspired the concept of metal criticality. We here characterize the criticality of 62 metals and metalloids in a 3D "criticality space" consisting of supply risk, environmental implications, and vulnerability to supply restriction. Contributing factors that lead to extreme values include high geopolitical concentration of pri...

In soil environments, sorption/desorption reactions as well as chemical complexation with inorganic and organic ligands and redox reactions, both biotic and abiotic, are of great importance in controlling their bioavailability, leaching and toxicity. These reactions are affected by many factors such as pH, nature of the sorbents, presence and concentration of organic and inorganic ligands, incl...
متن کاملContent of Metals and Metalloids in Soil Sampled in Bor and Its Surroundings (eastern Serbia)
In the municipality of Bor (Eastern Serbia), which is known for its production of copper from sulphide ores, soil was sampled in urban, rural and background area. The content of metals (Pb, Cu, Cd, Zn, Ni, Cr) and metalloids (As, Sb, Se, Te) in the soil was determined. The highest concentrations of the analyzed elements and frequent exceedance of the limit values were observed in soil samples f...
