Is Mentalizing Essential to Predict Human Network Size? Reexamining the Social Brain Hypothesis From a Social Network Perspective

چکیده

One central question in social science and evolutionary anthropology is how humans can form maintain large networks. The brain hypothesis argues that use their mentalizing ability to read others’ minds for the development of dyadic relationships layered However, previous empirical studies have not directly examined association between size active network located at outermost layer. By introducing a perspective, we predicted individuals only but also belong multiple communities, which indirectly expands size. We collected data from undergraduates Japan (N = 175) examine linked online Mentalizing was positively associated with number dyads communities These findings suggest has limited validity, there need more careful explanations surrounding psychological structural underpinnings human

Online social network size is reflected in human brain structure

The increasing ubiquity of web-based social networking services is a striking feature of modern human society. The degree to which individuals participate in these networks varies substantially for reasons that are unclear. Here, we show a biological basis for such variability by demonstrating that quantitative variation in the number of friends an individual declares on a web-based social netw...

The Brain is a Social Network

Social Network Analysis is employed widely as a means to compute the probability that a given message flows through a social network. This approach is mainly grounded upon the correct usage of three basic graph-theoretic measures: degree centrality, closeness centrality and betweeness centrality. We developed a model, using Semantic Social Network Analysis, that overcomes the drawbacks of gener...

RUNNING HEAD: The mentalizing network and high construal Involvement of the mentalizing network in social and non-social high construal

The dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) is consistently involved in tasks requiring the processing of mental states, and much rarer so by tasks that don’t involve mental state inferences. We hypothesized that the dmPFC might be more generally involved in high construal of stimuli, defined as the formation of concepts or ideas by omitting non-essential features of stimuli, irrespective of thei...

Pain tolerance predicts human social network size.

Personal social network size exhibits considerable variation in the human population and is associated with both physical and mental health status. Much of this inter-individual variation in human sociality remains unexplained from a biological perspective. According to the brain opioid theory of social attachment, binding of the neuropeptide β-endorphin to μ-opioid receptors in the central ner...

Social life, evolution of intelligence, behaviour and human brain size

Social life is one of the most critical factors of the evolution of the behavior of non-human primates and humans. Several factors, such as an increase in brain size, adaptive modules, and grooming, are related to the complexities of social groups. Although some scientists have mentioned foraging as a rival hypothesis for the evolution of behavior, in this research, we tried to investigate the ...
