چکیده

The recent discovery of Ising superconductivity has garnered a lot interest due in part to the resilience these superconductors large in-plane magnetic fields. In this Perspective we explain basic concepts that define behavior superconductors, provide an overview electronic structure and properties with focus on NbSe$_2$, summarize key experimental observations have been made class highlight role defects proximity-induced effects at interfaces finally discuss prospects for observing bulk materials.

First Principles Methods: A Perspective from Quantum Monte Carlo

Quantum Monte Carlo methods are among the most accurate algorithms for predicting properties of general quantum systems. We briefly introduce ground state, path integral at finite temperature and coupled electron-ion Monte Carlo methods, their merits and limitations. We then discuss recent calculations using these methods for dense liquid hydrogen as it undergoes a molecular/atomic (metal/insul...

Superconductivity in lithium, potassium, and aluminum under extreme pressure: a first-principles study.

Extreme pressure strongly affects the superconducting properties of "simple" elemental metals, such as Li, K, and Al. Pressure induces superconductivity in Li (as high as 17 K) while suppressing it in Al. We report first-principles investigations of the superconducting properties of dense Li, K, and Al based on a recently proposed, parameter-free, method. Our results show an unprecedented agree...

Unified understanding of superconductivity and Mott transition in alkali-doped fullerides from first principles

Alkali-doped fullerides A 3C60 (A = K, Rb, Cs) are surprising materials where conventional phonon-mediated superconductivity and unconventional Mott physics meet, leading to a remarkable phase diagram as a function of volume per C60 molecule. We address these materials with a state-of-the-art calculation, where we construct a realistic low-energy model from first principles without using a prio...
