Keck spectroscopy of the coma cluster ultra-diffuse galaxy Y358: dynamical mass in a wider context

چکیده

We examine ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) and their relation to non-UDGs in mass-radius-luminosity space. begin by publishing Keck/KCWI spectroscopy for the Coma cluster UDG Y358, which we measure both a recessional velocity dispersion. Our confirms association with Y358's status as UDG. From our dispersion (19 $\pm$ 3 km s$^{-1}$) calculate dynamical mass within half-light radius provides evidence core dark matter halo. compare this mass, along those globular (GC)-rich/-poor UDGs literature, profiles isolated, gas-rich NIHAO/FIRE simulations. find GC-poor have masses similar UDGs, suggesting an evolutionary pathway may exist between two. Conversely, GC-rich too massive be easily explained evolution of UDGs. The simulated match However, once compared stellar -- halo space, FIRE/NIHAO do not either or at same mass. Finally, supplement data Y358 other that measured dispersions literature. sample wide range finding locus luminosity primary difference being larger radii.

The Mass Profile of the Coma Galaxy Cluster

We use a new redshift survey complete to mR ≃ 15.4 within 4.25 o from the center of the Coma cluster to measure the mass profile of the cluster to r ∼ 5.5h Mpc. We extend the profile to r ∼ 10h Mpc with a further sample complete to mR = 15.4 in 42% of the area within a 10 radius and to mZw = 15.5 in the remaining area. Galaxies within this region are falling onto the cluster on moderately radia...

Galaxy Aggregates in the Coma Cluster

We present evidence for a new morphologically defined form of small-scale substructure in the Coma Cluster, which we call galaxy aggregates. These aggregates are dominated by a central galaxy, which is on average three magnitudes brighter than the smaller aggregate members, nearly all of which lie to one side of the central galaxy. We have found three such galaxy aggregates dominated by the S0 ...

Keck Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in the Sombrero Galaxy 1

We analyze high signal-to-noise spectra for 14 globular clusters (GCs) in the Sombrero galaxy, NGC 4594 = M104, obtained with the LRIS spectrograph on the Keck I telescope. We find generally good agreement between spectroscopic metallicities and previous photometric metallicites based on V −I colors. Further, we use measurements of various Balmer line indices on co-added spectra of metal-poor a...

Keck Spectroscopy of Globular Clusters in the Virgo Cluster

We present the results of a Keck spectroscopic study of globular clusters associated with the Virgo Cluster dwarf elliptical VCC 1386. We analyze blue spectroscopic absorption lines from 3500-5500 Å for 13 globular cluster candidates and confirm that five are associated with VCC 1386. By comparing metal and Balmer line indices of these globular clusters with α-enhanced single stellar population...

Dark matter distribution in the Coma cluster from galaxy kinematics: breaking the mass-anisotropy degeneracy

We study velocity moments of elliptical galaxies in the Coma cluster using Jeans equations. The dark matter distribution in the cluster is modelled by a generalised formula based upon the results of cosmological N -body simulations. Its inner slope (cuspy or flat), concentration, and mass within the virial radius are kept as free parameters, as well as the velocity anisotropy, assumed independe...
