Keyframe Selection for Visual Localization and Mapping Tasks: A Systematic Literature Review

Visual localization and mapping algorithms attempt to estimate, from images, geometrical models that explain ego motion the positions of objects in a real scene. The success these tasks depends directly on quality availability visual data, since information is recovered changes images. Keyframe selection commonly used approach reduce amount data be processed as well prevent useless or wrong considered during optimization. This study aims identify, analyze, summarize methods present literature for keyframe within context mapping. We adopt systematic review (SLR) basis our work, built top well-defined methodology. To best knowledge, this first related topic. results show there lack studies address problem application deficiency testing validation proposed methods. In addition findings, we also propose an updated categorization well-discussed categories literature. believe SLR step toward developing body knowledge by encouraging development more theoretical less heuristic process.
