Labour supply, service intensity, and contracts: Theory and evidence on physicians

چکیده
Based on linked administrative and survey panel data, we analyse the labour supply behaviour of physicians who could adopt either a standard fee-for-service contract or mixed remuneration (MR) contract. Under MR, received per diem reduced fee for services provided. We present estimates structural discrete choice model that incorporates service intensity (services provided hour) into framework. use our to predict (ex ante) effects contracts physician welfare, as measured by average equivalent variations. The is under an MR contract, suggesting incentives matter. Hours spent seeing patients less sensitive than services. Our results suggest reform forcing all system would have substantially larger were observed reform. A pure salary (per diem) sharply reduce but increase time patients.

Contracts: Theory and Evidence
The information systems outsourcing market has seen rapid growth. Companies are increasingly choosing to outsource many of their information systems activities to services firms rather than sourcing them internally. This trend is inconsistent with the predictions of some of the published literature which point to the high costs of using an outside market. These articles, based on transaction co...
متن کاملLabour Supply, Work Effort and Contract Choice: Theory and Evidence on Physicians1
We develop and estimate a generalized labour supply model that incorporates work effort into the standard consumption-leisure trade-off. We allow workers a choice between two contracts: a piece rate contract, wherein he is paid per unit of service provided, and a mixed contract, wherein he receives an hourly wage and a reduced piece rate. This setting gives rise to a nonconvex budget set and an...

This paper explores the effect of personal income taxes on redistribution when labour supply reactions are taken into consideration. The results indicate that the classical non-behavioural results on redistribution are not necessarily satisfied in a more general behavioural framework. In this respect, it is shown that the relevant transition to measure redistribution is not the transition from ...
متن کاملLabour Supply and Taxes
In this paper we provide an overview of the literature relating labour supply to taxes and welfare benefits with a focus on presenting the empirical consensus. We begin with a basic continuous hours model, where individuals have completely free choice over their hours of work. We then consider fixed costs of work, the complications introduced by the benefits system, dynamic aspects of labour su...
