Large deviations of cancer recurrence timing

We study large deviation events in the timing of disease recurrence. In particular, we are interested modeling cancer treatment failure due to mutation induced drug resistance. first present a two-type branching process model this phenomenon, where an initial population cells that sensitive therapy can produce mutants resistant therapy. investigate two random times, recurrence time and crossover time. Recurrence is defined as size mutant exceeds given proportion drug-sensitive cells. Crossover cell dominates total population. establish convergence probability results for both then develop expressions deviations rate early events. characterize how rates functions depend on finally look at conditioned number clones special case deterministically decaying find if occurs before predicted law numbers limit there will likely be increase time, i.e., tumor diversity.
