Large-eddy simulation on the similarity between wakes of wind turbines with different yaw angles

This work is dedicated to studying the influence of yaw angle on wake characteristics a 2.5 MW utility-scale wind turbine using large-eddy simulations with turbine's blades and nacelle parameterized as actuator surfaces. Four different angles are simulated, i.e., $\gamma=0^{\circ},10^{\circ},20^{\circ},30^{\circ}$ for three tip-speed ratios $\lambda = 7,8,9$. Similarities observed both time-averaged velocity fields turbulence statistics wakes. Specifically, it found that temporal average deflection, deficit transverse velocity, Reynolds stresses, width defined can be properly scaled characteristic length scales depending thrust rotor angles. The region influenced by PDF instantaneous position, standard deviation position width, other hand, well diameter independent ratios. These results suggest yawed decomposed into streamwise components, turbine-added meandering motion decoupled from deflection considered cases.
