چکیده
Abstract One prominent feature in the atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn is appearance large-scale vortices (LSVs). However, mechanism that sustains these LSVs remains unclear. possible are driven by rotating convection. Here, we present numerical simulation results on a rapidly Rayleigh–Bénard convection at small Prandtl number Pr = 0.1 (close to turbulent numbers Saturn). We identified four flow regimes our simulation: multiple vortices, coexisting cyclone anticyclone, cyclone, turbulence. The formation requires two conditions be satisfied: vertical Reynolds large ( Re z ≥ 400 ), Rossby Ro ≤ 0.4). A first appears when decreases smaller than 0.4. When further 0.1, anticyclone emerges. have studied heat transfer result reveals more efficient anticyclonic region cyclonic region. Bifurcation of Infinite Prandtl Number Rotating Convection
We consider infinite Prandtl number convection with rotation which is the basic model in geophysical fluid dynamics. For the rotation free case, the rigorous analysis has been provided by Park [15, 16, 17] under various boundary conditions. By thoroughly investigating We prove in this paper that the solutions bifurcate from the trivial solution u = 0 to an attractor ΣR which consists of only on...
متن کاملLogarithmic bounds for infinite Prandtl number rotating convection
Convection refers to fluid motion that is induced by buoyancy. In thermal convection buoyancy is due to temperature differences and one of the interesting questions is how much of the total heat transfer is due to convection. The natural measure of this quantity is the Nusselt number, N , and many experiments and numerical simulations have been performed to discern the relationship between N an...
متن کاملConfined rotating convection with large Prandtl number: centrifugal effects on wall modes.
Thermal convection in a rotating cylinder with a radius-to-height aspect ratio of Γ=4 for fluids with large Prandtl number is studied numerically. Centrifugal buoyancy effects are investigated in a regime where the Coriolis force is relatively large and the onset of thermal convection is in the so-called wall modes regime, where pairs of hot and cold thermal plumes ascend and descend in the cyl...
