Lattice stretching bistability and dynamic heterogeneity.

A simple one-dimensional lattice model is suggested to describe the experimentally observed plateau in force-stretching diagrams for some macromolecules. This chain model involves the nearest-neighbor interaction of a Morse-like potential (required to have a saturation branch) and a harmonic second-neighbor coupling. Under an external stretching applied to the chain ends, the intersite Morse-li...

Stretching lattice models of protein folding.

A new class of experiments that probe folding of individual protein domains uses mechanical stretching to cause the transition. We show how stretching forces can be incorporated in lattice models of folding. For fast folding proteins, the analysis suggests a complex relation between the force dependence and the reaction coordinate for folding.

A dynamic lattice model for heterogeneous materials

In this paper, the mechanical behavior of three-phase inhomogeneous materials is modeled using the meso-scale model with lattice beams for static and dynamic analyses. The Timoshenko beam theory is applied instead of the classical Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the mechanical properties of lattice beam connection are derived based on the continuum medium using the non-local continuum theory. T...

Rotational correlation and dynamic heterogeneity in a kinetically constrained lattice gas.

We study the dynamical heterogeneity and glassy dynamics in a kinetically constrained lattice-gas model which has both translational and rotational degrees of freedom. We find that the rotational relaxation time tracks the structural relaxation time as density is increased whereas the translational diffusion constant exhibits a strong decoupling. We investigate distributions of exchange and per...
