Leaf Photosynthesis and Carbon Metabolism Adapt to Crop Load in ‘Gala’ Apple Trees

چکیده
It is widely accepted that a tight coordination between carbon (C) utilization in the sink and C assimilation metabolism source exists higher plants. However, much of our current understanding based on research from herbaceous plants, where interaction less sophisticated compared to woody perennials with significant presence. Apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) good representative latter category, its production transport sorbitol, addition sucrose, adds complexity regulation. In this study, four-year-old “Gala”/”M.26” apple trees were subjected crop load levels at 2.5, 7.5, 15 fruits/cm2 trunk cross-sectional area. Low exhibited reduced leaf extra accumulation non-structural carbohydrates (NSC). This was primarily result activity Rubisco increased activities key enzymes synthesize starch, sorbitol. Among NSC, starch found be most sensitive could function as leading indicator for source–sink balance apple. even high still retained amount NSC leaves dawn, demonstrating fundamentally different plants way it balances inventories dawn export night growth.

Effect of crop load on fruiting and leaf photosynthesis of 'Braeburn'/M.26 apple trees.
Four-year-old apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) trees cv. 'Braeburn' on M.26 rootstock were thinned at full bloom to establish six crop loads ranging from a heavy crop to a deflowered treatment. At harvest, mean yield per tree varied from 0 to 38 kg and mean fruit weight ranged from 225 g in the heaviest cropping treatment to 385 g in the lightest cropping treatment. Light cropping resulted in a...

Gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, photosynthetic end products and related enzymes in source leaves in response to low sink demand after girdling to remove the root sink were assessed in young apple trees (Malus pumila) grown in two greenhouses with different air temperatures for 5 days. Compared with the non-girdled control in the low-temperature greenhouse (diurnal maximum air temperatur...

Carbon metabolite feedback regulation of leaf photosynthesis and development.
Photosynthesis is regulated as a two-way process. Light regulates the expression of genes for photosynthesis and the activity of the gene products (feedforward control). Rate of end-product use down-stream of the Calvin cycle, determined largely by nutrition and temperature, also affects photosynthetic activity and photosynthetic gene expression (feedback control). Whereas feedforward control e...
متن کاملApple leaf senescence: leaf disc compared to attached leaf.
Attached apple leaves (Pyrus malus L., Golden Delicious) began to lose protein in early August as the first sign of senescence. Apple leaf discs prepared from samples before early August gained protein for up to 7 days after detachment. After early August, the loss of protein from leaf discs was no greater than the loss from attached leaves in 7 days. The loss of chlorophyll from leaf discs beg...
