Abstract Lortie’s original conception of the apprenticeship observation was one conservative schooling practice and negative impact on teacher learning for school change. Schooling practices have changed in 60 years since research that established as launch pad to teaching, changing prospective teachers’ experience schooling. This article shares pre-service who never attended school, having been home educated. The absence an schools highlights need better understand growing diversity teachers bring initial education. teacher’s raises explore context contemporary teach.
