Lessons Learned from Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter Flight Dynamics Operations: NASA Deep Space Network Interfaces and Support Levels

On Aug. 4, 2022, at 23:08:48 (UTC), the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), also known as Danuri, was launched using a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Currently, KPLO is successfully conducting its science mission around Moon. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s Deep Network (DSN) utilized for successful flight operation of KPLO. A great deal joint effort made between Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) NASA DSN team since beginning ground system design success mission. efficient utilization management in deep space exploration are critical not only spacecraft’s telemetry command but tracking dynamics (FD) operation. In this work, top-level interface architecture, detailed workflows, support levels, practical lessons learned from team’s efforts presented KPLO’s FD Due to significant efforts, currently performing smoothly lunar orbit. Through cooperative experience with DSN, more reliable partnership expected Korea’s own KARI-NASA on other missions future.
