Abstract This manuscript presents a short route to justify the widely used Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer (MCRT) algorithm straight from Equation (RTE). In this regard, paper starts deriving probability measure obtained integral formulation of RTE under unidirectional point source in an infinite domain. derivation only requires analytical integration first two terms perturbation expansion. Although derivations have been devised clarify relationship between MCRT and RTE, they tend be rather long elaborate. Considering how simple it is loose probabilistic interpretation photon’s physical propagation process, decay popularity former approaches relating entirely understandable. Unfortunately, all has given false impression that are not closely related, recent works explicitly stated no direct link exists them. work simpler demonstrating emerges statistically sample through Markov chains, further clarifying method’s foundations. compact, proposed does skip any fundamental step, preserving mathematical rigor while giving specific expressions functions. Thus, can help devise efficient ways for different scenarios or when coupling method with other methods traditionally grounded such as Spherical Harmonics Discrete Ordinates methods.

Monte Carlo radiative transfer in protoplanetary disks
Aims. We present a new continuum 3D radiative transfer code, MCFOST, based on a Monte-Carlo method. MCFOST can be used to calculate (i) monochromatic images in scattered light and/or thermal emission, (ii) polarisation maps, (iii) interferometric visibilities, (iv) spectral energy distributions and (v) dust temperature distributions of protoplanetary disks. Methods. Several improvements to the ...
متن کاملCosmological Reionization Around the First Stars: Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer
We study the evolution of ionization fronts around the first stars by combining high resolution numerical cosmological (Λ+CDM model) simulations and Monte Carlo radiative transfer methods. In particular, we follow the reionization produced by a stellar source of total mass M = 2 × 108M⊙ which turns on at z ≈ 12, located at a node of the cosmic web. We explore the role of (i) the Spectral Energy...
متن کاملThe Dirty Model. I. Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer through Dust
We present the DIRTY radiative transfer model in this paper and a companion paper. This model computes the polarized radiative transfer of photons from arbitrary distributions of stars through arbitrary distributions of dust using Monte Carlo techniques. The dust re-emission is done self-consistently with the dust absorption and scattering and includes all three important emission paths: equili...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Radiative Heat Transfer Simulation on a Reconfigurable Computer
Recently, the appearance of very large (3 – 10M gate) FPGAs with embedded arithmetic units has opened the door to the possibility of floating point computation on these devices. While previous researchers have described peak performance or kernel matrix operations, there is as yet relatively little experience with mapping an application-specific floating point loop onto FPGAs. In this work, we ...
متن کاملEfficient Monte Carlo methods for continuum radiative transfer
We discuss the efficiency of Monte Carlo methods in solving continuum radiative transfer problems. The sampling of the radiation field and convergence of dust temperature calculations in the case of optically thick clouds are both studied. For spherically symmetric clouds we find that the computational cost of Monte Carlo simulations can be reduced, in some cases by orders of magnitude, with si...
