Actin filament-membrane attachment: are membrane particles involved?
The association of actin filaments with membranes is an important feature in the motility of nonmuscle cells. We investigated the role of membrane particles in the attachment of actin filaments to membranes in those systems in which the attachment site can be identified. Freeze fractures through the end-on attachment site of the acrosomal filament bundles in Mytilus (mussel) and Limulus (horses...
متن کاملEntheses: tendon and ligament attachment sites.
The current brief review focuses on certain issues relating to form-function relationships that are evident at tendon or ligament attachment sites (entheses). It evaluates the development of entheses (both fibrocartilaginous and fibrous) and highlights again an issue largely ignored for decades - i.e. how entheses attached to the metaphyses of long bones manage to keep the same relative positio...
متن کاملSites of ubiquitin attachment in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
Sites of ubiquitin modification have been identified by mass spectrometry based on the increase in molecular mass of a tryptic peptide carrying two additional glycine residues from the ubiquitin moiety. However, such peptides with GG shifts have been difficult to discover. We identify 870 unique sites of ubiquitin attachment on 438 different proteins of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
متن کاملSpindle assembly checkpoint proteins are positioned close to core microtubule attachment sites at kinetochores
Spindle assembly checkpoint proteins have been thought to reside in the peripheral corona region of the kinetochore, distal to microtubule attachment sites at the outer plate. However, recent biochemical evidence indicates that checkpoint proteins are closely linked to the core kinetochore microtubule attachment site comprised of the Knl1-Mis12-Ndc80 (KMN) complexes/KMN network. In this paper, ...
متن کاملAre the hotspots of radio galaxies the sites of in - situ acceleration of relativistic particles ?
Using a large set of optically detected hotspots in powerful extragalactic double radio sources, we examine the basic question of whether the detection of optical synchrotron radiation requires in-situ acceleration of relativistic electrons within the hotspots/lobes. For this, we take into account the jet’s bulk relativistic motion, as well as its likely misalignment from the plane of the sky. ...
