چکیده

Abstract Purpose of Review In this article, we aim to provide an overview the occurrence and characteristics livestock-associated (LA-) meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). We further question role LA-MRSA as a potential foodborne pathogen. investigate recent findings developments from One Health perspective also highlighting current strategies initiatives aiming improve reporting, control, prevention LA-MRSA. Recent Findings While overall number invasive MRSA infections in humans is decreasing (in most European countries USA) or steadily increasing Asia-Pacific region), causative agent disease pathogen still poorly understood. prevalence livestock remains high many geographical regions acquisition new virulence resistance determinants constitutes growing threat for human health. Summary The true incidence due occupational exposure unknown. Improved monitoring tracking procedures are urgently needed. Strain typing crucial enable improved understanding impact on animal

Community-associated meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is endemic in hospitals worldwide, and causes substantial morbidity and mortality. Health-care-associated MRSA infections arise in individuals with predisposing risk factors, such as surgery or presence of an indwelling medical device. By contrast, many community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) infections arise in otherwise healthy individuals who do ...

Letter to the editor: Livestock-associated meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA), Austria, 2013

To the editor: In their article titled ‘Livestock-associated meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) among human MRSA isolates, European Union/ European Economic Area countries, 2013’, Kinross et al. recently reported on the occurrence of LA-MRSA in humans [1]. The results were obtained by an ECDC initiated study documenting the identification of LA-MRSA (i.e. CC398 and ‘other’ LA-...

Monitoring the spread of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in The Netherlands from a reference laboratory perspective

BACKGROUND In The Netherlands, efforts to control meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in hospitals have been largely successful due to stringent screening of patients on admission and isolation of those that fall into defined risk categories. However, Dutch hospitals are not free of MRSA, and a considerable number of cases are found that do not belong to any of the risk categories...

Prevalence of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

In the Netherlands, meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is detected on pork and veal farms, and hence farmers working with MRSA-positive animals are at an increased risk of being colonised. Recently retail meat products have been found positive for MRSA. Therefore, we tested the prevalence of MRSA among employees who work in the cold meat processing industry and in institutional k...

Livestock-associated meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) among human MRSA isolates, European Union/European Economic Area countries, 2013

Currently, surveillance of livestock-associated meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) in humans in Europe is not systematic but mainly event-based. In September 2014, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) initiated a questionnaire to collect data on the number of LA-MRSA from human samples (one isolate per patient) from national/regional reference laborato...
