Long-Term Assessment of Onshore and Offshore Wind Energy Potentials of Qatar

Exploitation of conventional energy resources has caused a deliberate increase in the emitted carbon atmosphere, which catalyzes global warming trends. This is matter concern, especially Qatar, where fossil fuels (oil and gas) are largely relied upon for power production. The dependency on such could be gradually reduced by utilizing clean renewable energy. Resource characterization an important step to evaluate potentiality available sources. Wind one among them, not been assessed reliably so far Qatar. We analyzed wind potential along onshore offshore areas Qatar using 40 years (1979–2018) hourly data extracted from ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) database. Monthly, seasonal, annual, decadal mean densities have derived. Reliability tests carried out at select locations. Trends inter-annual variability assessed. study reveals that generally moderate but consistent with no intense trends during year period. An identified, secured links El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
