Long-term stiffness prediction of particle filled polymers by dynamic mechanical analysis: Frequency sweep versus creep method

چکیده
The long-term service life of polymers can be estimated with much shorter experiments by applying the time temperature superposition principle (TTS). In this approach, data is obtained at different temperatures, usually through a stepped isothermal method (SIM) on same sample. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) instruments offer two measurement methods to obtain SIM data: (i) static creep tests and (ii) dynamic frequency sweeps. This paper compares both highly graphite filled polypropylene. Our studies reproducibility each show that uncertainty for 20 year prediction lower than 6% methods. While creep-based require experimental time, sweep based scatter final result. main factors introducing end results are related raw TTS optimisation using shift factors. numerical improves accuracy master curve. By comparing SIM, it shows predictions one decade, deliver very comparable (less 10% difference). For longer predictions, differ not interchangeable. Furthermore, DMA was also effectively used as three-point bending setup, providing information about strain rate sensitivity linear visco-elastic region test setup sample dimensions TTS.

متن کاملMorphology Characterization of Particle Filled Polymers by Tomographic Methods
Several polypropylene composites with varying amounts of inorganic particles of different sizes were investigated. In dependence of the particle sizes four different tomographic methods were used to describe the morphology 3-dimensionally. For particle sizes of several micrometers sub-μm X-ray tomography and light optical tomography are suitable whereas for smaller particle sizes scanning elect...
متن کاملprediction of msw long-term settlement induced by mechanical and decomposition-based compressions
long-term settlement of msw landfills is a complex process, which is explained by the following two mechanisms: (1) the mechanical long-term compression of degradable organic solids (dos) and un-degradable organic solids (udos); and (2) the decomposition-based compression of the dos. based on these two distinct settlement mechanisms, in this study, the authors propose a new estimation model to ...
متن کاملDynamic Mechanical Analysis of Fly Ash Filled Polyurea Elastomer
In this work, the material properties of a series of fly ash/polyurea composites were studied. Dynamic mechanical analysis was conducted to study the effect of the fly ash volume fraction on the composite’s mechanical properties, i.e., on the material’s frequencyand temperature-dependent storage and loss moduli. It was found that the storage and loss moduli of the composite both increase as the...
