Machine Learning-Based Beamforming Design for Millimeter Wave IRS Communications With Discrete Phase Shifters

In this letter, we investigate an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted millimeter-wave multiple-input single-output downlink wireless communication system. By jointly calculating the active beamforming at base station and passive IRS, aim to minimize transmit power under constraint of each user’ signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. To solve problem, propose a low-complexity machine learning-based cross-entropy (CE) algorithm alternately optimize beamforming. Specifically, in alternative iteration process, zero-forcing (ZF) method CE are applied acquire beamforming, respectively. The starts with random sampling, by idea distribution focusing, namely shifting towards desired one minimizing CE, near optimal reflection coefficients adequately high probability can be obtained. addition, extend original one-bit phase shift IRS common case high-resolution enhance effectiveness algorithms. Simulation results verify that proposed obtain solution lower computational complexity.
