Magnetic-field-induced selective retardation of reaction in Mn/Ga diffusion couple

In-field heat treatments of a solid-liquid Mn/Ga diffusion couple were conducted at 573 and 673 K with without magnetic field 5 T to investigate effects on the phase formation. Formation β-Mn, Mn3Ga, γ-MnGa, λ-MnGa, Mn2Ga5, MnGa4 phases was observed. The obtained results indicated that reaction growth λ-MnGa Mn2Ga5 proceeded by diffusion-controlled process for both 0 T. We confirmed suppressed Mn2Ga5. parabolic coefficients exponentially applying It is suggested gain Zeeman energy Mn-rich played key role magnetic-field-induced suppression formation phases.
