Malonaldehyde-like Systems: BeF2 Clusters—A Subtle Balance between Hydrogen Bonds, Beryllium Bonds, and Resonance

The stability of malonaldehyde is governed by intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHBs) as well in malonaldehyde-like systems where oxygen replaced N or S at any the basic sites. As beryllium have been shown to strongly cooperate with bonds, this work explores high level ab initio G4 theory effect including non-covalent interaction system through its association BeF2. Although follows expected trends, formation a pseudocyclic form favored also when IMHB and Be are present, subtle balance between both interactions leads some surprising results other heteroatoms involved, point that energies can be much larger than even cyclization not favored. A complete analysis using different computational tools gives an answer those cases escaping predictable trends.
