Mass accretion rates of clusters of galaxies: CIRS and HeCS

چکیده

We use a new spherical accretion recipe tested on N -body simulations to measure the observed mass rate (MAR) of 129 clusters in Cluster Infall Regions Sloan Digital Sky Survey (CIRS) and Hectospec (HeCS). The cover redshift range 0.01 < z 0.30 ?10 14 ? 10 15 h ?1 M ? . Based three-dimensional profiles simulated reaching beyond virial radius, our returns MARs that agree with based merger trees. adopt this estimate MAR real measurements profile out ?3 R 200 caustic method these large radii. demonstrate validity estimates by applying same approach set mock surveys sample 2000 median = as well 50 : are unbiased within 19% clusters. CIRS HeCS increases accreting cluster, which is excellent agreement growth ?CDM model.

Spiral Galaxies and Tracers of Mass Accretion

Can the present dynamics of spiral galaxies tell us something about the merging history, the formation and evolution of disks? Galaxy interactions thicken or destroy disks; the simultaneous presence of thick and thin disks is a tracer of past accretion, and also of recent disk re-formation. Observation of a large number of counter-rotating disks is also evidence of past mergers, as well as the ...

The Mass Assembly History of Galaxies and Clusters of Galaxies

We discuss the mass assembly history both on cluster and galaxy scales and their impact on galaxy evolution. On cluster scale, we introduce our on-going PISCES project on Subaru, which plans to target ∼15 clusters at 0.4 6 z 6 1.3 using the unique wide-field (30) optical camera Suprime-Cam and the spectrograph both in optical (FOCAS, 6) and near-infrared (FMOS, 30). The main objectives of this ...

Mass-diameter Relation of Globular Star Clusters, Elliptical Galaxies and Spherical Clusters of Galaxies

In a preceeding paper alternative reflections on gravitation were developed. There it was assumed that the primary interaction between two masses is not of attractive but of repulsive nature. The repulsive force results from the impuls transfer produced by the gravitational radiation which is emitted and absorbed by both masses. The observed attractive force between the two masses according to ...

Gravitational Quenching in Massive Galaxies and Clusters by Clumpy Accretion

We consider a simple gravitational-heating mechanism for the long-term quenching of cooling flows and star formation in massive dark-matter haloes hosting elliptical galaxies and clusters. The virial shock heating in haloes > 10M⊙ triggers natural quenching in 10M⊙ haloes (Birnboim et al. 2007). Analytic estimates and simple simulations argue that the long-term quenching in haloes > Mmin ∼ 7×10...

Superbursts at near-Eddington mass accretion rates

Models for superbursts from neutron stars involving carbon shell flashes predict that the mass accretion rate should be anywhere in excess of one tenth of the Eddington limit. Yet, superbursts have so far only been detected in systems for which the accretion rate is limited between 0.1 and 0.25 times that limit. The question arises whether this is a selection effect or an intrinsic property. Th...
