چکیده

Speech intelligibility is an essential though complex construct for evaluating dysarthric speech. Various procedures can be used to measure speech intelligibility, most of which are based on subjective ratings assigned by experts. Since these and laborious, automatic recognition (ASR) has been proposed obtain objective metrics intelligibility. Although promising results have reported, ASR generally requires large amounts data consisting recorded annotated In the present study, we explored possibility using resources from dominant language variety improve performance systems non-dominant same pluricentric language. Dutch as example a language, with Netherlandic considered Flemish variety. The evaluated two types metrics: orthographic transcriptions global assessments, both obtained Overall, show that contribute improving developing objective, measures only when no available training models.

Improving the intelligibility of dysarthric speech

Dysarthria is a speech motor disorder usually resulting in a substantive decrease in speech intelligibility by the general population. In this study, we have significantly improved the intelligibility of dysarthric vowels of one speaker from 48% to 54%, as evaluated by a vowel identification task using 64 CVC stimuli judged by 24 listeners. Improvement was obtained by transforming the vowels of...

Autonomous measurement of speech intelligibility utilizing automatic speech recognition

Measures of speech intelligibility are an essential tool for diagnosing hearing impairment and for tuning hearing aid parameters. This study explores the potential of automatic speech recognition (ASR) for conducting autonomous listening tests. In these tests (e.g., in the Oldenburg sentence matrix test employed here) the responses of participants are usually logged by a (human) supervisor. The...

Dysarthric speech: a comparison of computerized speech recognition and listener intelligibility.

The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the recognition of dysarthric speech by a computerized voice recognition (VR) system and non-hearing-impaired adult listeners. Intelligibility "functions" were obtained for six dysarthric speakers who varied in severity and six age- and gender-matched controls. Speakers produced 70-item word lists over 5 sessions. VR using the IBM VoiceType ...

Objective Estimation of Dysarthric Speech Intelligibility

The de-facto standard for dysarthric intelligibility assessment is a subjective intelligibility test, performed by an expert. Subjective tests are often costly, biased and inconsistent because of their perceptual nature. Automatic objective assessment methods, in contrast, are repeatable and relatively cheap. Objective methods can be broken down into two subcategories: reference-free, and refer...
