Measuring tolerance for ambiguity: A German-language adaption and validation of the Tolerance for Ambiguity Scale (TAS)

Tolerance for Ambiguity (TA)—the ability to deal with ambiguous stimuli or situations—represents a central construct the acceptance of diversity. Although TA can be an important indicator functioning pluralistic society, it is rarely included in population surveys Germany, and there are few validated measurement instruments German-language area that suitable general surveys. Therefore, this paper proposes instrument German language address these concerns. This development based on English-language Tolerance Scale (TAS), which surveyed 12 items covering four sub-dimensions: valuing diverse others, change, challenging perspectives, unfamiliarity. These were translated into using TRAPD approach empirically tested three-wave online panel study Germany (n = 1,370 each wave). To evaluate psychometric quality TAS, validity (factorial validity) reliability (McDonalds’s omega coefficient test-retest stability) considered. article makes at least two contributions. First, version second, tests scale confirmatory factor analysis rather than exploratory approaches used previous studies. In summary, TAS valid reliable measuring Germany.
