Mechanical Analysis of Downsized Automobile Piston through Simulation

Engine downsizing technology benefits the environment in terms of emission gases and also reduces usage fuel automobiles. Reducing number pistons or their dimensions is among most suitable techniques for engine downsizing. However, reducing size will cause another issue to with withstanding applied forces generated due combustion during combustion. Therefore, this research work, automobile piston was analyzed through simulation using ANSYSv17.2 after a 10% stroke reduction its dimension. Further, advance novelty work; 02-different shapes: hollow toroidal chambers (HCC & TCC) were reduced investigating mechanical analysis. For analysis: maximum principal stresses, Von-Misses total deformation before analyzed. The results revealed that increased by 42%, 33.5%, 41.4%, 26.7%, 14.1%, 8.2% HCC TCC respectively. Additionally, offered better resistance as compared HCC. values within ultimate stress material, it can be concluded under safe mode.
