Mechanical Performance of Lime Mortar Coatings for Rehabilitation of Masonry Elements in Old and Historical Buildings

The use of lime as a binder in masonry lining mortars plays an important role its conservation and durability. Knowledge the mechanical characteristics pre-existing restoration is essential order to guarantee compatibility between them for avoiding appearance pathologies. paper mainly focuses on study performance lime-based be applied rehabilitation works old buildings. Four types were tested with very similar workability, based putty, aerial lime, hydraulic lime. Sand crushed rock powder used aggregates. Compressive flexural strengths determined, well their ultrasonic pulse velocity. Furthermore, specific tests carried out characterize mortar when plasters coatings, such development cracking, superficial water absorption under low pressure, pull-off strength. According results obtained, putty showed better properties, while those had behavior regarding pressure. Despite that, it was generally possible verify adequacy studied elements.
