Melting curve of 4He: no sign of a supersolid transition down to 10 mK.
We have measured the melting curve of 4He in the temperature range from 10 to 400 mK with the accuracy of about 0.5 micro bar. Crystals of different quality show the expected T4 dependence in the range from 80 to 400 mK without any sign of the supersolid transition, and the coefficient is in excellent agreement with available data on the sound velocity in liquid 4He and on the Debye temperature...
متن کاملMetallic Coulomb blockade thermometry down to 10 mK and below.
We present an improved nuclear refrigerator reaching 0.3 mK, aimed at microkelvin nanoelectronic experiments, and use it to investigate metallic Coulomb blockade thermometers (CBTs) with various resistances R. The high-R devices cool to slightly lower T, consistent with better isolation from the noise environment, and exhibit electron-phonon cooling [proportional] T(5) and a residual heat-leak ...

Is there a true supersolid phase transition ?
Six years have passed since Kim and Chan [1, 2] discovered supersolidity when they found that solid 4He does not rotate like a classical solid. Despite substantial effort, however, this phenomenon is not yet understood [3]. Some probably think that the research on this puzzling issue is too slow. Others, including myself, enjoy every new controversy and every new advance as if they were reading...
متن کامل(NH4)3CrO8: A new S = 1/2 system exhibiting no magnetic transition down to 0.3 K
Recent studies related to quantum computation suggest a need for developing a well-characterized low-spin, e.g., S = 1/2, metal complex with limited or no significant hyperfine interactions. To this end, we here report the synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic and thermodynamic characterization of ammonium peroxychromate, (NH4)3CrO8, a new compound of Cr(5+), with a 3dx2 y2 , S = 1/2 ground...
