چکیده

Abstract The Carnian Pluvial Event (CPE) was an interval marked by global climatic and environmental change, along with biotic turnover, which occurred during the early Late Triassic. Although causes consequences of this event remain unclear, one possible scenario is enhanced volcanism injecting greenhouse gases into atmosphere, perturbing carbon cycle, negatively impacting environment. However, there underlying challenge in showing a true cause- and-effect relationship between CPE, as both sedimentary volcanic records are difficult to date accurately enough demonstrate temporal correspondence. mercury (Hg) can be used fingerprint catastrophic record. We examined two sections that record CPE at Laishike Wayao Guizhou Province, southwest China, display high Hg contents spikes Hg/total organic content (TOC), Hg/Al, sulfur (TS), Hg/(Mo/Al) indicate shift excess loading. These anomalies correlative negative excursion ?13Ccarb values suggests increased injected massive amounts isotopically light these were ultimately recorded marine sediments. This interpretation supported slightly or near-zero ?199Hg consistent source. Our study supports hypothesis played major role evolution biota environment CPE.

Taphonomy and palaeoecology of Late Triassic (Carnian) ammonoid concentrations from the Taurus Mountains, Turkey

The deposits of the Carnian Kasımlar Formation within the Taurus Platform Units of south-western Turkey represent an important archive of a Late Triassic ecosystem. New palaeontological information was obtained by analysing the Kasimlarceltites mass occurrence, located within the Kasımlar Formation and named after the Lower Carnian (Julian) ammonoid genus Kasimlarceltites. This is the dominant ...

Osmium isotope evidence for a large Late Triassic impact event

Anomalously high platinum group element concentrations have previously been reported for Upper Triassic deep-sea sediments, which are interpreted to be derived from an extraterrestrial impact event. Here we report the osmium (Os) isotope fingerprint of an extraterrestrial impact from Upper Triassic chert successions in Japan. Os isotope data exhibit a marked negative excursion from an initial O...

Photic zone euxinia during the Permian-triassic superanoxic event.

Carbon and sulfur isotopic data, together with biomarker and iron speciation analyses of the Hovea-3 core that was drilled in the Perth Basin, Western Australia, indicate that euxinic conditions prevailed in the paleowater column during the Permian-Triassic superanoxic event. Biomarkers diagnostic for anoxygenic photosynthesis by Chlorobiaceae are particularly abundant at the boundary and into ...
