چکیده

Abstract Freeform surfaces including both the aspherical and prismatic concave/convex have been widely utilized in optical, electronical, biomedical areas. Most recently, it is reported that grinding with structured wheels provides new possibility to generate patterns on hard brittle materials. This paper reports latest research progress micro-grooving glass ceramic using laser diamond wheels. A nanosecond pulse firstly integrated into an ultra-precision machine tool used for in-line conditioning of super abrasive wheels, i.e., truing, dressing, profiling/texturing. Meanwhile, offset compensation method, considering shifting depth focus (DoF) at different irradiation positions, proposed accurately various profiles periphery Three types (riblets, grooves, pillars) are successfully fabricated substrate textured The results indicate system offers high flexibility accuracy shaping a promising solution functional microstructures

Grinding of Microstructures in Brittle Materials with Multiple Microprofiled Grinding Wheels

INTRODUCTION The manufacturing of complex shaped microstructures on microsystem parts in brittle materials provides a high geometrical accuracy [1]. This requirement can only be met by using microgrinding processes. There, metal bonded diamond grinding tools offer a remarkable potential due to their favorable wear behavior [2]. However, the dressing of complex microprofiles on these tools is no...

In-Process Electrical Dressing of Metal-Bonded Diamond Grinding Wheels

A new development of hybrid in-process electrical dressing of metal-bonded diamond grinding wheels is proposed in this paper. The electrical dressing method is used for overcoming the limitations of the conventional dressing methods available in relation to a super-abrasive wheel because of the hardness of its abrasive grains and the durability of its bonding material. The proposed hybrid in-pr...

New Diamond Grinding Wheels with Electrically Conductive Cutting Edges

The application of an electrically conductive diamond material to a new type of grinding wheel whose cutting edges possess electrical conductivity has been tried in this research work. Firstly, electrical discharge machining is applied on a solid surface of an electrically conductive CVD diamond film to create protrusions like cutting edges. Secondly, it is confirmed that the EDMed surface of t...
