Microalgae as an Effective Recovery Agent for Vanadium in Aquatic Environment

Given that vanadium is a valuable material, the implementation of recycling processes thus necessary to enhance element’s value chain as well minimize its undesirable environmental consequences. Among various remediation methods available, biological method based on microalgal adsorption known be eco-friendly and calls for further investigations. Herein, we evaluated V2O5 efficiencies four different strains: Nannochloropsis oculata, Heterocapsa circularisquama, Chattonella marina, antiqua. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) data indicated concentration in culture medium oculata was reduced from 4.61 ± 0.11 mg L−1 1.85 0.21 after being exposed solution 24 h, whereas supernatants other three strains displayed no change ion concentration. Therefore, our results strong potential with approximately 59.9% removal efficiency. Furthermore, morphological observation using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) cells were able maintain their intact morphology even under presence high concentrations heavy metals. Due efficiency robustness collectively support it strain recovery.
