چکیده

The UK’s Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) reactor design program has recently taken the decision to use exclusively microwave-based heating and current drive (HCD) actuators its concepts. This is based on a detailed assessment considering all viable HCD concepts, covering grid plasma efficiency, physics applications, technology maturity, integration, maintenance, costs. Of two microwave techniques: Electron Cyclotron (EC) Bernstein Wave (EBW), EC was deemed lowest risk EBW retained as potential path more efficient, higher performing device. To assess ECCD GRAY beam tracing code employed perform scans of launcher position, toroidal poloidal launch angle, frequency over first 3 cyclotron harmonics. For EBW, GENRAY/CQL3D were used estimate CD demonstrating promising results. reduce uncertainties in present models coupling drive, MAST Upgrade will install dual (28, 34.8 GHz), 900kW, 5s gyrotrons from Kyoto Fusioneering, part enhancements package. be accompanied by flexible 2D steering system allow midplane coand counter-CD above co-direction off-axis CD. Coupling efficiency quantified measuring induced reflected (i.e. non-coupled) power plate inserted path. experiments also include driven solenoid-free start-up, increasing pulse length factor 10 compared previous experiments. presentation discuss STEP studies capabilities.

Conceptual design of a neutron camera for MAST Upgrade.

This paper presents two different conceptual designs of neutron cameras for Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST) Upgrade. The first one consists of two horizontal cameras, one equatorial and one vertically down-shifted by 65 cm. The second design, viewing the plasma in a poloidal section, also consists of two cameras, one radial and the other one with a diagonal view. Design parameters for the ...

Ion orbit loss current in ASDEX Upgrade

The orbit loss current is calculated for the ASDEX Upgrade geometry using the 5D (3D in configuration space and 2D in velocity space) Monte Carlo code ASCOT. The balance between the obtained current and the analytical estimate of the return current shows an L–H transition for the normalized collision frequency ν∗i ≈ 1 as expected from analytic theory. The transition in ASDEX Upgrade, however, o...

Improvement of the Drive Current in 5nm Bulk-FinFET Using Process and Device Simulations

Abstract: We present the optimization of the manufacturing process of the 5nm bulk-FinFET technology by using the 3D process and device simulations. In this paper, bysimulating the manufacturing processes, we focus on optimizing the manufacturingprocess to improve the drive current of the 5nm FinFET. The improvement of drivecurrent is one of the most important issues in ...

Gpu-based Data Processing for 2d Microwave Imaging on Mast

The Synthetic Aperture Microwave Imaging (SAMI) diagnostic is a Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) diagnostic based at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. The acceleration of the SAMI diagnostic data processing code by a graphics processing unit (GPU) is presented, demonstrating acceleration of up to 60x compared to the original Interactive Data Language (IDL) data processing code. SAMI will now be...

Microwave Eddy-Current Techniques for Quantitative NDE

The objective of this research program is to develop microwave scattering techniques for obtaining quantitative information about the characteristic dimensions of surface cracks in metals. Work carried out during the past year has emphasized experimental techniques. The use of an IF bridge and a nearfield dielectric probe to improve the sensitivity of our 100-GHz eddy-current measurement system...
