Mixotrophy of Algae: More Algal Biomass and More Biofertilization for Plants

چکیده

Background: The use of algae as biofertilizers is fast-spreading in order to meet the excessive demands for agricultural products. To achieve this, enough algal biomass needs be supplied year-round. Hence, nutritional components must optimized through mixotrophic conditions. Materials and methods: Two isolates, namely, Phormidium sp. Synechocystis were tested their ability produce growth using different supplementations including molasses, aqueous Lepidium sativum, Trigonella foenum graecum seed extract liquorice root extract, well acetate salt solution. that showed highest under conditions was further used cantaloupe experiments. GC-MS also carried out on one fractions solvent system reveal some dominant novel bioactive compounds biomass. Results: sugarcane molasses significantly enhanced two strains, followed by sativum only case Therefore, it subsequent All parameters addition these sources with being best supplement. rich its content chlorophyll, proteins, sugars revealed GC–MS. germination percentage seeds treated a significant increase over control. growth-related metabolites total soluble all photosynthetic pigment contents seedlings increased this treatment. Discussion: superior enhancing due not but minerals nitrogenous compounds. extracts more than control set are omega-3 fatty acids, phytochemicals other essential nutrients. In experiments seeds, there Conclusion: Mixotrophic achieved better production autotrophy cheap resources such which waste from sugar industry, common herb cost-effective approach. mixotrophically grown blue-green alga biofertilizer plant germination, indicating usefulness eco-friendly strategy achieving both food security environmental sustainability.

More mixotrophy in the marine microbial mix.

Since the turn of the century, the paradigm of the marine microbial assemblage being composed primarily of photoautotrophs and chemoheterotrophs is shifting and challenging our understanding of how the microbial diversity contributes to the flow of energy, carbon, and other nutrients in the oceans. In PNAS, Muñoz-Marín et al. (1) add another piece to the puzzle by demonstrating that natural pop...

More aboveground biomass, phosphorus accumulation and remobilization contributed to high productivity of intercropping wheat

Intercropping often results in increasing production than sole per unit land area, but theunderlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Plants showed different physiologicalcharacteristics in intercropping and sole. However, less information was shown the relationshipsbetween plant aboveground biomass (AB), phosphorus accumulation (PB) and remobilizationand the yield advantage. Here, field exper...

Phosphate and nitrate removal from municipal wastewater by algae Scenedesmus obliquus cultivation and production of algal biomass

Nitrate and phosphate are abundant in urban wastewater. We evaluated the efficiency of nitrate and phosphate removal from wastewater by Scenedesmus obliquus and its use as a medium for Scenedesmus obliquus. Samples were collected from the effluent of central wastewater treatment in Gorgan. This experiment was done by 3 treatments and 6 replications that effluent with 100%, 50% and 0% were dilut...

More inequalities for Laplacian indices by way of majorization

The n-tuple of Laplacian characteristic values of a graph is majorized by the conjugate sequence of its degrees. Using that result we find a collection of general inequalities for a number of Laplacian indices expressed in terms of the conjugate degrees, and then with a maximality argument, we find tight general bounds expressed in terms of the size of the vertex set n and the average degree dG...

More closely related plants have more distinct mycorrhizal communities

Neighbouring plants are known to vary from having similar to dissimilar arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) communities. One possibility is that closely related plants have more similar AMF communities than more distantly related plants, an indication of phylogenetic host specificity. Here, we investigated the structure of AMF communities among dominant grassland plants at three sites in the No...
