Model-Based Rate-Distortion Optimized Video-Based Point Cloud Compression with Differential Evolution

The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) video-based point cloud compression (V-PCC) standard encodes a dynamic by first converting it into one geometry video and color then using coder to compress the two sequences. We propose analytical models for distortion bitrate of V-PCC reference software, where models’ variables are quantization step sizes used in encoding videos. Unlike previous work, our functions all frames group frames. Then, we use an implementation differential evolution algorithm efficiently minimize subject constraint on bitrate. Experimental results six clouds show that, compared state-of-the-art, method achieves with smaller error target (4.65% vs. 11.94% average) slightly lower rate-distortion performance (on average, increase Bjøntegaard delta (BD) is 0.27, BD rate 8.40%).
