چکیده
So far, large-scale projects aiming to map forest attributes using aerial LiDAR data have been developed ground sample plots acquired synchronously with LiDAR. No large independent of plot datasets. The goal this study was develop and validate parametric merchantable wood volume estimation models existing historical plots. can be applied datasets as a 10 × m raster. demonstrated that relative density index (RDI) based on self-thinning equation dominant height were suitable variables calculated both for resulting raster showed sound accuracy rates when compared validation zones: R², 82.25%; RMSE, 13.7 m3/ha; bias, −4.09 m3/ha. results show used calculate the RDI height. These consequently over area high level accuracy, thus not requiring implementation new costly

Scaling wood volume estimates from inventory plots to landscapes with airborne LiDAR in temperate deciduous forest
BACKGROUND Monitoring and managing carbon stocks in forested ecosystems requires accurate and repeatable quantification of the spatial distribution of wood volume at landscape to regional scales. Grid-based forest inventory networks have provided valuable records of forest structure and dynamics at individual plot scales, but in isolation they may not represent the carbon dynamics of heterogene...

The United States Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program provides a diverse selection of data used to assess the status of the nation’s forests using sample locations dispersed throughout the country. Airborne laser scanning (ALS) systems are capable of producing accurate measurements of individual tree dimensions and also possess the ability to characterize forest structure...
متن کاملForest Modeling using Airborne Lidar
Building up forest inventories for performing forest management is currently done manually through field cruises and interpretation of the aerial imagery, which is a labor-intensive task. Airborne lidar technology is capable of building a point cloud off the top surface of the ground objects. Modeling urban areas from the lidar has been successfully accomplished. However, for forest modeling, t...
