Modelling the Collapsing University


 Although university’s contribution to the democratic society has been studied adequately, establishment of its internal institutions not. Issues autonomy and accountability exist whereas, today’s Postmodernism introduces further uncertainty. After constructing a framework for measuring democracy within university using indicators selected from international organizations, we attempt interrelate these characteristics, raising question: “To what extent could characteristics be eroded before collapses?” Interviews with European academics were conducted influence forces external Central University in Hungary as case study. The findings show that increased state control undermines institutional so does imposing unnecessary restrictions. Protecting academic freedom, civil rights, supporting an open are paramount importance, otherwise collapses. A model captures such catastrophic changes is finally proposed.
