چکیده

Abstract With climate change and an increasing global human population, the concept of agroforestry is gaining economic environmental interest. The practice growing trees crops on same land mainly applied in (sub)tropical rarer temperate areas where farmers fear decreased understorey crop yields due to competition with trees. However, whether stronger below- (soil moisture, nutrients) or aboveground (light) a silvoarable system (AFS) not clear. effects different treatments light, water nutrient availability production two AFS Central Switzerland were investigated, summer barley ( Hordeum vulgare L.) was grown as under 90%, 40% 0% shade nets, without irrigation and/or fertilisation fully factorial design. Yield reduced by 26% heavy shade; yield reductions moderate significant. Fertilisation increased 13% 6–9%, respectively, independent from shade. Knowledge Systems in Agroforestry

Pacific Islands agroforestry has evolved into sustainable, diverse and productive a land use systems in many areas. We marvel at these systems, and the scientific world is trying to catch up with the traditional knowledge. At the same time, Pacific Islands farmers are abandoning their agroforestry systems in great numbers. It is mainly intensified agriculture for cash crop production that follo...

Disturbance of the magnetic field did not affect spatial memory.

Extremely low-frequency magnetic field (ELF-MF) has been suggested to influence the cognitive capability but this should be dynamically evaluated in a longitudinal study. Previous training can affect performance, but the influence under magnetic field is unclear. This study aims to evaluate the effects of previous training and ELF-MF exposure on learning and memory using the Morris water maze (...

Caffeine at a Moderate Dose Did Not Affect the Skeletal System of Rats with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes

Diabetes may lead to the development of osteoporosis. Coffee drinking, apart from its health benefits, is taken into consideration as an osteoporosis risk factor. Data from human and animal studies on coffee and caffeine bone effects are inconsistent. The aim of the study was to investigate effects of caffeine at a moderate dose on the skeletal system of rats in two models of experimental diabe...

Selection for Silage Yield and Composition Did Not Affect Genomic Diversity Within the Wisconsin Quality Synthetic Maize Population

Maize silage is forage of high quality and yield, and represents the second most important use of maize in the United States. The Wisconsin Quality Synthetic (WQS) maize population has undergone five cycles of recurrent selection for silage yield and composition, resulting in a genetically improved population. The application of high-density molecular markers allows breeders and geneticists to ...
