Rickettsia helvetica in Dermacentor reticulatus Ticks
We report on the molecular evidence that Dermacentor reticulatus ticks in Croatia are infected with Rickettsia helvetica (10%) or Rickettsia slovaca (2%) or co-infected with both species (1%). These findings expand the knowledge of the geographic distribution of R. helvetica and D. reticulatus ticks.
متن کاملHantavirus RNA was not detected in Dermacentor reticulatus ticks.
A total of 190 Dermacentor reticulatus ticks (80 males, 110 females) collected on the territory of Ostrów Lubelski, Suchawa, Zalutyń and Kazimierz Dolny (Lublin Province, eastern Poland) were examined by reverse transcription PCR and nested PCR methods for the presence of hantavirus RNA. None of the examined Dermacentor reticulatus specimens showed the presence of the hantavirus-specific RNA in...
متن کاملDetection of Anaplasma phagocytophilum in Dermacentor reticulatus ticks.
IN Europe, cases of Lyme borreliosis, tickborne encephalitis and granulocytic anaplasmosis have increased in human beings, domestic animals and wildlife, expanding their geographical ranges to much of Scandinavia and eastern Europe. Proposed explanations include improved surveillance and diagnosis, changes in human behaviour, climate change, and increasing numbers of reservoir hosts and vectors...
متن کاملExperimental transmission of Anaplasma marginale by male Dermacentor reticulatus
BACKGROUND Bovine anaplasmosis has been reported in several European countries, but the vector competency of tick species for Anaplasma marginale from these localities has not been determined. Because of the wide distributional range of Dermacentor reticulatus within Europe and the major role of Dermacentor spp. as a vector of A. marginale in the United States, we tested the vector competency o...
متن کاملAbundance and seasonal activity of adult Dermacentor reticulatus (Acari: Amblyommidae) in eastern Poland in relation to meteorological conditions and the photoperiod.
Investigations of the abundance and seasonal activity of adult D. reticulatus in relation to the eff ect of climatic conditions (temperature, humidity) and the photoperiod on host-seeking behaviour were conducted in eastern Poland (51°25'N) in 1999-2000. D. reticulatus host-seeking activity was observed between the end of March at 5°C temperature and 89% humidity, and the beginning of December ...
