MTD, Where Art Thou? A Systematic Review of Moving Target Defense Techniques for IoT

Context: Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems are increasingly deployed in the real world, but their security lags behind state of art non-IoT systems. Moving target defense (MTD) is a cyberdefense paradigm, successfully implemented conventional systems, that could improve IoT security. Objective: Identify and synthesize existing MTD techniques for validate feasibility as cybersecurity paradigm suitable Method: We use systematic literature review method to search analyze up July 2020. evaluated terms foundations real-world deployability using evidence they provide. define entropy-related metrics categorize them. This first survey Shannon's entropy metric empirically. Results: Thirty-two distinct exist: 54% Network-layer-based, 50% present strong about deployment, 64% have weak foundations. Conclusion: feasible approach. A variety proposals exist, with implementation evaluation. Nevertheless, still immature: most weak. Novel should prioritize providing convincing deployment evidence.
