Multi-Detector Computed Tomography in Diagnosis of Esophageal and Fundal Varices in Cirrhotic Patients

Background: Esophageal varices is one of the most common complication liver cirrhosis, which lead to hematemesis with high morbidity and mortality rates. this study aimed assess role triphasic computed tomography (CT) scan in detection grading esophageal (EV) gastric (GV) compared endoscopy. Patients methods: A cross-sectional was conducted on 35 patients (26 male & 9 female) who had cirrhosis. All were referred perform abdominal CT then upper gastro-intestinal (UGI) Results: We have noticed that there only 1 patient oesophageal confirmed by UGI endoscopy not seen CT. while 15 There varix 8 has 88.9 sensitivity comparing 100 specificity 97.14 accuracy highly significant p value (p < 0.05). detected positive cases negative case EGD cases. So Conclusion: could be used as independent method for diagnosis varices.
