Trapped-ion quantum logic gates based on oscillating magnetic fields.
Oscillating magnetic fields and field gradients can be used to implement single-qubit rotations and entangling multiqubit quantum gates for trapped-ion quantum information processing (QIP). With fields generated by currents in microfabricated surface-electrode traps, it should be possible to achieve gate speeds that are comparable to those of optically induced gates for realistic distances betw...
متن کاملUltrafast coherent excitation of a trapped ion qubit for fast gates and photon frequency qubits.
We demonstrate ultrafast coherent excitation of an atomic qubit stored in the hyperfine levels of a single trapped cadmium ion. Such ultrafast excitation is crucial for entangling networks of remotely located trapped ions through the interference of photon frequency qubits, and is also a key component for realizing ultrafast quantum gates between Coulomb-coupled ions.
متن کاملQuantum Computing with Trapped Ion Hyperfine Qubits
Trapped atomic ions were first proposed as a viable quantum computing candidate by Cirac and Zoller in 1995.(1) Almost 10 years later, the trapped ion system remains one of the few candidates that satisfies the general requirements for a quantum computer as outlined by DiVincenzo(2): (i) a scalable system of well-defined qubits, (ii) a method to reliably initialize the quantum system, (iii) lon...
متن کاملQuantum Logic Gates in Superconducting Qubits
Successful operation of a quantum computer will require unprecedented control of quantum systems. The basic qubit operations, quantum logic gates, are described by the linear Schrodinger equation: the “analog” nature of quantum state evolution makes these logic gates fundamentally sensitive to imperfections in control and loss of energy. In contrast, conventional digital logic can correct error...
متن کاملHigh fidelity readout of trapped ion qubits
We demonstrate single-shot qubit readout with a fidelity sufficient for fault-tolerant quantum computation. For an optical qubit stored in 40Ca+ we achieve 99.991(1)% average readout fidelity in 10(6) trials, using time-resolved photon counting. An adaptive measurement technique allows 99.99% fidelity to be reached in 145 micros average detection time. For 43Ca+, we propose and implement an opt...
