Multiple-instrument-based spectral irradiance of the Moon

چکیده
A model of lunar spectral irradiance incorporates data from multiple spacecraft and surface telescopic observations. Using 12 sources derived 90,000 images, models that are smooth across both geometry wavelength involve only about 35 coefficients found with a mean weighted residual <0.5 % . An libration orbiter observations is used to reduce the number required. Derivation uses iterative assignment single scaling factor for each band in instrument, which effectively long-term calibration coefficient band. Calibration 26 instruments two other published reveals although eight agree within 3% over 400 840 nm, some large biases exist. The provides sensitive assessment instrument response trends.

The Spectral Irradiance of the Moon
Images of the Moon at 32 wavelengths from 350 to 2450 nm have been obtained from a dedicated observatory during the bright half of each month over a period of several years. The ultimate goal is to develop a spectral radiance model of the Moon with an angular resolution and radiometric accuracy appropriate for calibration of Earth-orbiting spacecraft. An empirical model of irradiance has been d...
متن کاملLunar Spectral Irradiance and Radiance (LUSI): New Instrumentation to Characterize the Moon as a Space-Based Radiometric Standard
The need to understand and monitor climate change has led to proposed radiometric accuracy requirements for space-based remote sensing instruments that are very stringent and currently outside the capabilities of many Earth orbiting instruments. A major problem is quantifying changes in sensor performance that occur from launch and during the mission. To address this problem on-orbit calibrator...
متن کاملThe Total Irradiance Monitor (tim): Instrument Design
The Total Irradiance Monitor (TIM) instrument is designed to measure total solar irradiance with an absolute accuracy of 100 parts per million. Four electrical substitution radiometers behind precision apertures measure input radiant power while providing redundancy. Duty cycling the use of the radiometers tracks degradation of the nickel-phosphorous absorptive black radiometer interiors caused...
